Assistant Café Leader

We’re a Calgary-based, owner-operator coffee company with nine cafés in addition to our roastery and HQ at the Simmons building in Calgary’s historic East Village. We’re passionate about coffee and creating welcoming, memorable experiences for our customers.

Position: The Assistant Café Leader (ACL) supports the Café Leader in operating and leading Phil & Sebastian’s new CrossIron Mills café, set to open mid to late November.

Location: Cross Iron Mills
and Central Calgary for training purposes.

Hours: Must have open availability, including evenings, weekends
and holidays.
Start Date: Immediate.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead by example on the café floor and deliver warm, knowledgeable service.
• Maintain high standards for coffee quality, food, cleanliness, and hospitality.
• Support scheduling, shift leadership, delegation, and daily operational execution.
• Support, coach, and develop baristas and new team members. Help build a positive, accountable, and engaging team culture.
• Assist with opening the new CrossIron Mills location and establishing strong operating routines.
• Support inventory, waste management, cash handling, and other administrative responsibilities.

Requirements

• Full-time availability, including weekends.
• Access to CrossIron Mills and Central Calgary.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience, ideally in specialty coffee, restaurant, or a customer-focused environment.
• Strong communication, organization, and follow-through.
• Ability to coach and motivate a team while maintaining clear expectations.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and actively leading on the floor.
• Passion for coffee, hospitality, and creating an excellent guest experience.
• Willingness to learn and uphold Phil & Sebastian’s standards and values.
